  Field marshal (Pakistan);   Field marshal (FM) is the highest title in the Pakistan Army given by the Pakistani government to Pakistan Army officers in recognition of exceptional service. Though it is a modern and legal rank with a pay grade of "Apex Scale," it has been given only twice in its entire history, and the two field marshals who have received the rank are Ayub Khan and Asim Munir, who were promoted in 1959 and 2025, respectively. It is an honorary rank and entails no extra powers and pay grade. It is equivalent to Marshal of the Air Force in the Pakistan Air Force and Admiral of the Fleet in the Pakistan Navy, and although it is a normally senior rank in Pakistan army, it can be addressed as five-star general "standard rank scale" to differentiate it from other military insignia.
