Dog Jumps into Action to Rescue Children in Pool—But There's a Catch
Dog Jumps into Action to Rescue Children in Pool—But There's a Catch.
Disregarding signs and risking
her own safety, a dog jumped into action to save children she believed were
under threat, immediately garnering admiration from the internet.
Owner Amanda Morgan said in an
email to Newsweek that her dog, Tinker, is as sweet as can be, with a
particularly "soft heart" when it comes to children. She first
encountered the dog's protective nature while taking her nephews and Tinker to
the lake and swimming.
"She attempts to pull them
out of the water, so I really had to stop taking her to the lake with them
because she freaks out when they are in the water," Morgan said.
One day, Morgan walked her dog
around the neighborhood, but Tinker grew truly anxious when she heard her
favorite children—whom she sees regularly for pets—jumping and screaming.
Morgan realized they were "just being kids" and having a summer day
splashing in the pool, but Tinker went into protective mode.
"She dragged me over to the
pool and just kept banging her head against the metal fence," Morgan
recounted. "I had to actually pull her away so she wouldn't injure
herself."
But not knowing the children
were okay, Tinker persisted. She cried and flopped down on the ground. It took
Morgan around 15 minutes to finally pull Tinker away from the pool. One of the
children' parents even approached, after noticing Tinker's distress, assuring
her that everybody was fine.
Tinker not only disregarded the
indications that the children were not drowning, she also exposed herself to
risk in order to save them even though she did not know how to swim herself.
Morgan reports that Tinker will not swim in deep water even if she is wearing a
life jacket.
"Tinker does not care for
everyone, she's afraid of a lot of people and dogs, but she will do ANYTHING
for people she cares about," she said. "She's a very special
dog."
Her courageous actions, though
not required in that instant, moved people's hearts, and as of Monday, the
TikTok video had more than 516,400 views and 70,800 likes.
"True but legit, Tinker is
a bad ass for that. Trying to sacrifice herself on behalf of her kids. She is
such a good girl," posted a viewer.
Wishing she got fair pay for her
efforts, someone commented: "Her bravery medal must have been out of
camera shot."
